How do Anti-Wrinkle Injections work?
Anti-Wrinkle injections work by temporarily restricting muscle movement, blocking the signals sent from our nerve endings to our muscles. Usually, when your muscles move and contract, the chemical acetylcholine, is responsible. So by blocking this chemical release, Anti-Wrinkle injections work by relaxing overactive muscles, delaying the production of further lines on the skin that these muscles would normally be making.
They are an essentially painless way of delaying the ageing process – giving you smoother, younger and tighter skin in 10-15 minutes. By using ultra-fine needles, we target the source of wrinkles directly and you will see the full, antiaging affect in 7 to 10 days. The treatment can last up to three to four months depending on the individual, and we recommend repeating treatments three to four times a year for continuously silky, younger-looking skin.
At Retreat Clinic, we are experts in a range of advanced procedures to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and give you natural looking results. From worry lines, laugh lines, crow’s feet and frown lines, we can reduce your life lines.

Questions
As you will begin to regain muscle movement at 12 weeks, for optimum results, we recommend that you repeat your treatments between 3-4 months of your first session. This ensures that your skin remains line free, or in the case of very deep, dynamic lines, they will remain softer and potentially continue to repair.
NO Like with most things, the thought is worse than the actual doing. The same can be said about Anti-Wrinkle injections, most people experience a very mild discomfort when having the treatment and the discomfort is over within minutes.
Your treated area may look red, raised and slightly swollen, yet these effects only last up to 30 minutes. Swelling and bruising is not uncommon and it can occur sometimes. Usually this will heal within seven days or sooner . You will be given specific aftercare advice if bruising is expected. We recommend that before your treatment, purchase Arnica 30c which are available at local your local health shops . You should use it only following your treatment, as directed by your practitioner.
Experiencing any mild redness, slight swelling and bruising is all very common after your treatment. The area may also feel tender to touch in the few days following, yet all these side effects are very normal and are usually nothing to worry about. It can take a maximum of 7 days for all side effects to subside completely and you should feel better as each day passes.
It is very rare to have any serious side effects, although if you do experience any of the following, please call the clinic immediately or seek help from a GP or A&E:
Persistent swelling that gets worse with time.
Increase in pain on the treated area.
Skin feeling hot, increased redness that does not go away in time.
Skin near the treatment area, looking pale/white or greyish in color on the day or day after the treatment, and pain increasing in this area.
Generally feeling unwell in the following days of your treatment.
To optimize the outcome of your treatment, here are a few tips:
Avoid consuming alcohol the day before your treatment, this will help to minimize the chance of bruising at the injection sites
In the week before your treatment, try to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen or any other type of anti-inflammatory medication as this will too increase your risk of bruising.
For Anti-Wrinkle injections – please do not plan to have any other facial treatments (peels, facials, waxing, threading, semi-permanent makeup) for a week following your treatment as your skin will still be healing. Before your visit, it is fine to have facial treatments but just not in the week after the treatment. To also be on the safe side, it is best to wait at least two weeks after your procedure before returning to these skin treatments also.
If you have been unwell with a cold virus, cold sore (herpes) or any other skin rash or condition, please phone the clinic to check if you should still attend your appointment.
After your treatment, please closely follow the aftercare advice given to you by your Medical Injector, and please do not apply anything else to the treatment area, unless previously discussed.
With any injectable treatment there is a small risk of localised bleeding, bruising and swelling – usually this subsides a few hours after treatment.
